Lansbury Shawl (knitting pattern)
Lansbury Shawl is a tribute to Dame Angela Lansbury and 3 of her iconic roles: Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd), Madame Arcati (Blithe Spirit), and, of course, Jessica Fletcher.
Combining fun and funky textures (including a garter stitch lace knit from the back!), this shawlette livens up any outfit - from a tee and jeans to your favorite little black dress.
And, with 3 easy-to-memorize stitch patterns that grow and shift into one another, this project will keep you interested and asking for more - whether you’re an adventurous beginner or an advanced pro!
Materials
250-500yd (230-450m) or more of fingering-weight yarn.
This pattern is written with both precise lengths and yarn percentages, to help you use every last gram of yarn without playing yarn chicken (you’re welcome!). Therefore, it’s adaptable to both smaller or partial skeins and multi-skein projects.
This shawl loves playful colorways! This pattern looks best with variegated, tonal, speckled, or solid yarns. Stripey or gradient yarns will negate the stitch textures.

I used US3 needles; you’ll use whatever gives you a Jessica Fletcher pattern that you love (instructions in pattern).
Gauge is not critical.
Notions:
2 stitch markers
scale for weighing yarn (optional)
scrap yarn for lifelines (optional but highly recommended)
4- and 6-row counting markers are helpful
Finished size
My first Lansbury Shawlette (pictured in purple/green) used a generous 121g skein (453yd/414m) of single ply, and I got a 69” (1.75m) wingspan and 12” (30cm) depth.
My second (pictured in brown/gray) used 91g (352 yd/322m) of 80/20 sock, and I got a 64” (1.62m) wingspan and 11” (28cm) depth.
Stitches used:
CDD center double decrease: slip 2 together as if to k2tog, k1, pass the 2 slipped sts over
K knit
M1 make 1 using your favorite M1 method (direction of lean doesn’t really matter here). I used a backwards loop.
P purl
P2tog purl 2 together
Sm slip marker
Swyib slip 1 st purlwise with yarn held in back of the work
Swyif slip 1 st knitwise with yarn held in front of the work
