Want to try journaling, but put off by blank pages and rules? A gentle UK guide with 120 short prompts, simple ways to start, and printable journal pages, with no streaks to keep and no pressure to feel positive.

Writing things down is one of the simplest wellbeing ideas there is. This guide brings together official UK health information and what Mind and the Mental Health Foundation say about journaling and noticing good things, and turns it into an easy, low-pressure way to start.

It explains, in plain words, different ways to journal (a few words, lists, free writing, drawing, or a notes app), what the evidence reported by those organisations says and does not say, and how to notice good things without pretending everything is fine. There is a clear section on when to pause: what to do if writing stirs up difficult memories or feelings, and when journaling is not the right thing for you just now.

Then it gives you 120 short prompts in themed sets (small good things, noticing, feelings, being kind to yourself, people and connection, looking ahead, calm and the senses, low-energy days, and looking back), plus a simple five-minute way in. Pick one, skip any you do not like.

A clear chapter explains when to see a GP and how to get NHS talking therapies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Urgent help contacts for each part of the UK are at the front and again at the back.

The eight A4 pages are spaced for handwriting: a journaling plan, three good things for a week, a feelings check-in, three journal pages (free writing, prompts and kind words), a looking-back page, and a pause plan with space to prepare for a GP appointment.

What you get: one 30-page A4 PDF. Print the journal pages as often as you like for your own use. Information checked against official UK health and charity pages on 28 October 2026, with every source listed.

Please note: This guide is general self-help information only. It is not medical advice, therapy, counselling, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a substitute for your GP. Journaling and gratitude are optional and are not a treatment for any condition. No particular result is promised. It does not give medicine or supplement advice: please ask your GP or a pharmacist. If low mood or worry is affecting your daily life, speak to a GP. If you feel unsafe or someone's life is at risk, call 999 or go to A&E. Samaritans are free to call on 116 123, day or night.
