This time sense task box teaches students to estimate how long a job takes, pace a task to break time on a clock, and tell the supervisor when they will not finish on time.

Why I made this: A car wash student kept hearing "hustle up." He was not slow; he spent fifteen minutes on a five minute job. Once we timed jobs and guessed first, he checked the clock at halfway and told his supervisor early when he would not finish.

What’s included:

• A 21 page PDF and an editable Word copy

• A teacher page with exact counts and a 2 week plan

• Level A ●: 12 near errorless "about how long?" cards with pictures, in 16 point type

• Level B ■: 24 cards for 1, 5, or 15 minutes, minutes until break, and finish times

• Level C ▲: 24 twist cards (will not finish on time, a time mistake to catch, a broken tool to set aside)

• A "how long does it take?" sort mat and a clock and pacing reference page with drawn clocks and a time line

• 3 practice pages, an answer key with twists marked, a new executive function data sheet, a 10 session graph, a try it for real page with a 5 item adult check, and blank cards

How to use it: Time a few real jobs with a timer first. Then students work one level at a time with self check codes and the clock page. End with a real job: guess, time it, and check at the halfway point.

Who it’s for: High school special education teachers, 18 to 21 program teachers, job coaches, and paras building job site pacing and independence with students ages 14 to 21.

Format: PDF, US Letter, 21 pages, plus an editable Word copy. Level markers use a word plus a shape, so it works in black and white.

How this is different: Job Skills Math: Work Schedules + Time Cards | Counting Work Hours Task Cards and Digital Work Schedules + Time Cards: Self Checking PowerPoint cover hours and time cards. This box is about time inside a task: guessing how long, pacing to break, and speaking up when you will be late.
