Sax-O-Phun – Ragtime Novelty for Saxophone Quartet (SATB)

A sparkling Roaring Twenties showpiece by the original saxophone superstar. In the 1920s, Rudy Wiedoeft was the most famous saxophonist in the world – a dazzling virtuoso whose "novelty" pieces sparked a nationwide saxophone craze in America. Sax-O-Phun is one of his most delightful creations: a playful, bouncing ragtime romp full of syncopations, quick-fingered runs and cheeky humor. This arrangement brings Wiedoeft's solo showpiece to the full saxophone quartet, sharing the fun and the fireworks among all four voices. Brilliant, witty and full of vintage charm, it makes a perfect encore or a lively change of pace in any concert program.

Written by Frank Herrgott – pianist, composer and arranger – for Les Désaxés, a French saxophone quartet renowned for blending virtuosity and humor on stage.
