Mother's Heart – A Tender Ballad in 5/4 for Saxophone Quartet (SATB)
A tender, lyrical ballad flowing on a gentle 5/4 pulse. Mother's Heart was originally written as a prelude for solo piano, part of Frank Herrgott's 12 Preludes, Op. 2. Reimagined here for saxophone quartet, it blossoms into a heartfelt song for four voices: long, singing melodic lines, warm harmonies and a deep sense of tenderness, all carried by a supple five-beat rhythm that gives the music its gentle, rocking motion and its unique character.
Performed by Les Désaxés, the French saxophone quartet renowned for blending virtuosity and humor on stage, this original work reveals another side of the saxophone quartet: intimate, expressive and profoundly lyrical. An ideal piece for ensembles seeking an emotional moment in their concert program.
