Selected Text Formatting into Find/Change Preferences
GREP Format Picker is an Adobe InDesign script that copies formatting straight from selected text into the Find Format and Change Format boxes of a GREP or Text find/change. Setting those format boxes by hand in InDesign’s Find/Change dialog is tedious — you click through nested panels choosing font, size, color, and more. Instead, format a piece of text the way you want, select it, tick the attributes to copy, and this script loads them into the find/change preferences for you.
A tabbed palette keeps Find Format and Change Format separate, and each tab has its own Capture button that records the ticked attributes from the current cursor location into its own buffer. This lets you capture the Find format at one location, move the cursor, and capture the Change format at a second location, then apply both in one click. It covers nineteen attributes, from paragraph and character styles to font, size, color, scale, language, and conditions.
