The Breakdown ( AI generated short movie, 2025 )
“A late-night office, a tired detective, and a woman who lies just enough to sound honest.”
That’s how the short film opens — a dark comedy wrapped in the shadows and cadence of classic noir, built from memories, symbolism, and the emotional patterns of a real life.
The story follows a private detective who gets pulled into what seems like a simple job: a beautiful heiress asks him to investigate a mysterious break-in. But as he digs deeper, he realizes the entire story is a setup — one that pushes him to the limits of patience, logic, and, in a way, his own past romantic history.
Behind the crime narrative lies a personal layer: the film is a symbolic distillation of several past relationships, condensed into a single “femme fatale,” representing recurring patterns — fragile, toxic, magnetic. The dark humor and the weary, cynical tone of the narrator become a commentary on bad decisions and the way people build their own mysteries.
Crafted in an elegant visual style inspired by classic noir, the film blends contemporary techniques:
– characters created and animated using Envato Elements,
– visuals upscaled to 4K with Topaz AI,
– a hard-boiled detective voice generated with Resemble AI,
– an original score produced with Suno AI, adding tension, irony, and atmosphere to every frame.
The result is a moody short film where fiction and autobiography intertwine. A modern noir filled with shadows, doubles, and painfully personal truths — where the detective, much like the author himself, discovers that the hardest thing isn’t finding the truth… but walking away carrying it.
The film was made entirely with Blender 3D & D5 Render with some 2D elements in Inkscape, in october 2025. You can read about the production process on my website`s blog : https://paulseling.info/2025/11/27/the-breakdown-procesul-de-productie-production-process/
