This kippah was designed as a commission by a friend looking for something very slightly softer, quick to work, and a little more feminine, for the women in her life, many who are beginning a practice of wearing a kippah for tefillah. It isn’t my personal style — I’ve worn the same simple crocheted kippot for years and have never been drawn to anything lacier — but that’s exactly the point.

How we come to tefillah is personal. What we wear on our heads when we pray is personal. For some, that means something plain and unadorned; for others, something that feels beautiful and distinctly their own. Both enhance the kavod of our tefillah and remind us that we each belong in our own ways.

If this pattern helps even one woman feel more at home in her own kippah, it’s done its job.

This design was commissioned for worsted weight yarn and has very light shaping; changing yarn weight will affect the shape, so if you prefer something lighter, plan on making some adjustments. It’s a quick make; ideal for Sisterhood projects, gifts for b’not mitzvah, or stitching up a few to keep on hand for guests.

A photo tutorial for magic loop is included.

A note on use: This pattern is intended for personal and gifting use. Please don’t sell finished kippot made from this pattern without reaching out first. I’m happy to talk about licensing for those who’d like to sell their work, I just ask a conversation about what that means before kippot made from this design are sold.

A percentage of all pattern sales will be donated to the Sisterhood of Beth El Synagogue Center and The Women’s League Torah Fund, supporting the women who have always held our communities together.
