Errigal (An Earagail) is part of Na Seacht Deirfiúracha mountain chain and is the highest peak in Donegal. First named by the Fir Bolg people who came to worship it, its name originally means oratory (believed to reflect the sacredness of the place as a whole).

Worked flat, this wrap uses knit and purl stitches to create a piece that you can wear several different ways and is the perfect layer for seeing off a morning and evening chill. Although the pattern is written for a DK weight yarn, the gauge is very forgiving on this wrap and you could adjust to accommodate a different yarn weight.

Pattern Notes and Size Guide

This pattern is worked flat from the top down, with row counts resetting to Row 1 for each section of the pattern. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.

This pattern is written for two different sizes, with sizes listed in the instructions as: Size 1 (2). (See photo gallery for more details, including dimensions and yardage requirements.) Sample in photos is Size 1. As Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend is a hand-dyed yarn, Colour 1 in the sample shown here was worked alternating skeins every two rows to blend differences between skeins. If using more than one skein of hand-dyed yarn per colour section, alternating skeins every two rows will help maintain a more even, blended colour.

The chart below provides the finished dimensions of the wrap and yardage/meterage requirements for each size. This piece can be easily customised for different dimensions, or to be worked in a solid colour. See notes above in ‘Making your gauge work for you’ for more detail.
