The St. John's Co-Cathedral Companion
Built by the Knights of Malta, this building presents a deliberately plain limestone facade to the street, concealing one of the most overwhelming Baroque interiors in Europe. This Companion reads its floor of four hundred knights, and tells the genuinely cinematic true story of Caravaggio's only signed painting, stolen in 1984 and ransomed back through years of phone negotiations with a Dominican priest.
