The Believers Authority in the Earth
In The Believer's Authority in the Earth, Michael E.B. Maher explains that Satan is the god of this world, having gained authority when Adam sinned. However, through His death and resurrection, Jesus legally destroyed the devil’s power over Death and Hades, stripped him of his authority, and took the keys of Death and Hades. Jesus then delegated His authority in the earth to the church, giving believers the right and responsibility to exercise dominion over Satan and all demons.
Maher outlines two primary weapons: the name of Jesus and the word of God. Believers must actively resist the devil, not ask God to do so, using these weapons within their God-appointed spheres of influence (themselves, their household, their workplace, and when demons directly harass them). He warns that sin gives the devil legal access, while walking in holiness keeps the door closed. Satan is persistent and will return, but each time he must be resisted. Maher also cautions against reviling Satan, who remains a dignitary, as this opens the believer to judgment. The book emphasizes that believers must exercise their authority, stand firm in faith, and use God’s word to overcome the enemy in every area of life.
