Undulating texture echoes Arabic geometric art in this representation of the confluence of styles from Cordoba, Spain, under Moorish occupation between the 9th and 11th centuries. This turban-style hat is knit in one piece, beginning with a singularly cabled band that is worked flat, and then grafted together. The crown is picked up from this band and worked in the round, creating a seamless accessory in four sizes. Stitch pattern is both written and charted.

Materials: approximately 140 (185, 245, 325) yards / 130 (170, 225, 300) meters sport weight yarn

Yarn weight: Sport (12 wpi)

Gauge: 26 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches in Wave Pattern on smaller needles, blocked
24 sts and 32 rnds = 4" in Stockinette Stitch on larger needles in the round, blocked

Needle size: US 2 - 2.75 mm
US 4 - 3.5 mm

Sizes: Infant (Child/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large)

Finished Measurements: 16 (18, 20, 22)" circumference × 5.75" band height (does not include crown); meant to be worn with 0–2.5" negative ease (sample is 18" size)

Skills Required: Casting on provisionally, cabling, picking up and knitting, grafting (instructions for grafting on needles included in pattern), decreasing, creative manipulation of your knitting.

Notes: You may wish to choose a size smaller than you normally do, as this hat is intended to be worn with negative ease, more like a turban.
