Group Creation

Divide the class into groups of three to four. Roll for the elements. Each group will create their own TV show with a fantasy theme and write a synopsis of at least 100 words.

Pantsing vs Outlining

Some people work better with an outline. Some don’t. Roll for elements. Set a timer for twenty minutes and have students write a short story as fast as they can. Now, roll for a new set of elements. Let students work at their own pace as they outline a new story.


1. One line to describe the new story.

2. Three to five lines breaking down scenes.

3. A single paragraph describing each scene in detail.

4. Write the short story.

5. Compare both. Which was easier to write? Which method do they prefer?
