Year 5 Term 1 Homeschool Program
Year 5 – Term 1
Allah’s Creation and Responsibility
This Year 5 Term 1 learning program has been thoughtfully designed to support families seeking calm, purposeful, and deen-centred learning at home. It provides structure without rigidity, guiding children through meaningful learning while allowing families the flexibility to adapt pacing and resources to suit their household.
Term 1 centres on Allah’s creation and responsibility, helping children reconnect learning to purpose and reflect on their role as caretakers of the world. Learning is grounded in an Islamic worldview, shaping how children understand knowledge, responsibility, justice and their place within creation. The Qur’an and authentic hadith form the primary sources of learning, supported by age-appropriate texts that can be adapted according to availability.
Lessons are designed to encourage growing independence, allowing children to engage confidently with learning while remaining supported by the parent when needed.
This is a complete term-long learning program, not a worksheet pack or scripted curriculum. It supports parents in planning, delivering, assessing, and recording learning across the term, while encouraging understanding, reflection, and steady growth rather than pressure or content overload.
Learning is planned with reference to the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) Year 5 outcomes, focusing on key skills, concepts, and understanding. This approach allows the program to be adapted internationally while remaining age-appropriate and academically sound.
What’s Covered in Term 1 (At a Glance)
English
Children develop narrative writing and comprehension through reading and responding to quality texts. Learning focuses on character development, dialogue, paragraph structure, plot development, editing, and reflective responses, with increasing independence across the term.
Mathematics
Learning centres on strong number understanding, including place value to one million, addition and subtraction strategies, fractions, and introductory measurement. Children are supported to reason, explain their thinking, and apply understanding in meaningful contexts.
Humanities (Geography / Social Understanding)
Children explore how societies function, focusing on responsibility, justice, fairness, accountability, and human impact on communities and environments, viewed through an Islamic understanding of responsibility.
Science
Children investigate living things by developing observation, classification, and inquiry skills. Learning focuses on growth, needs, and environments, while nurturing care and responsibility toward Allah’s creation.
Personal Development & Wellbeing (PDHPE)
Learning supports personal identity, emotional regulation, respectful relationships, safety, and healthy lifestyle habits, encouraging self-awareness, empathy, and responsibility.
Creative Arts & Movement
Visual arts form the primary creative focus, with opportunities to explore pattern, observation, balance and visual storytelling. Guidance is also provided for incorporating drama, music, and movement naturally across learning areas and physical education.
Curriculum Coverage & Parent Support
The program includes a clear week-by-week focus aligned with Australian Curriculum (ACARA) Year 5 outcomes, alongside guidance on observation, documentation, and extension options. Support is provided for recording progress across the year, preparing families for home education reviews while remaining flexible and child-centred.
Parents are guided on what to focus on, what to observe, and how to record learning, ensuring children are working at an appropriate Year 5 level while allowing space for individual growth and extension.
This program is designed for families who value involvement, flexibility and trust in the learning process. It is not about rushing content or meeting unrealistic expectations, but about raising children who love learning, think deeply, act responsibly and recognise the signs of Allah ﷻ in the world around them.
May this term be a source of clarity, confidence and barakah for your homeschooling journey.
