These are essential communication skills that can help us navigate difficult situations, resolve conflicts and build stronger relationships.

This engaging and interactive lesson helps B1+ English language learners explore the art of apologising and discover the six essential steps to making a sincere and effective apology. Students learn not only what to say, but also how their choice of words, tone and body language can influence the way their apology is received.

The lesson begins with an exploration of body language and attitudes, encouraging students to consider how non-verbal communication can reveal our feelings and intentions. Through guided discussions, students share their own experiences and reflect on what makes an apology meaningful and believable.

As the lesson progresses, students work with reading and listening materials to identify and practise the six steps of an effective apology. They also explore the other side of the conversation: how to respond when someone apologises, how to recognise sincerity and how to decide whether an apology should be accepted.

Practical communication is at the heart of this lesson. Through realistic role-play scenarios, students put their new language and insights into practice, developing the confidence to handle sensitive conversations in English. A final reflection activity encourages them to think about what they have learned and how they can apply these skills in their own lives.
