Little Devotions for Life’s Hard Days

Hard days bring big feelings and children need more than a reminder to be brave. They need someone to listen and the sure promises of Jesus.

Held by Jesus is a series of illustrated Christian devotions aimed at children ages 6–10, written from a confessional Lutheran perspective. Each booklet addresses a difficult experience like grief, fear, illness, anger, or bullying, with gentle, honest language and the comfort of Christ’s death and resurrection.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, share their feelings, and seek help from trusted adults. Throughout the series, their hope rests in Jesus and His promises, even when sadness remains or answers are difficult to understand.

Each four-page booklet includes:

• Scripture readings and a child-friendly Bible promise
• A short devotion centered on Jesus
• Warm watercolor illustrations
• A simple activity or conversation to share with an adult
• A prayer and a brief truth to remember
• Encouragement for parents and caring adults

Written by Rev. Gabriel James and produced by Shelter of the Lord, these booklets are designed for families, churches, Christian classrooms, and pastoral care. Churches can purchase copies to display and give to children and families facing life’s hard days.
