About Me

Hi, I'm the person behind Gently Forward — and if you're here, there's a good chance we have quite a bit in common.

I'm recently retired, surrounded by cats and dogs who have strong opinions about my working hours, and I've spent the last little while doing something that felt both exciting and quietly terrifying: learning how to navigate the online world from scratch.

My background is in science and teaching, which means I have a deep appreciation for clear explanations, logical steps, and the particular frustration of being given information that assumes you already know things you don't. I've spent a career making complicated things understandable — and that's exactly what I try to do here.

I created Gently Forward because I kept looking for resources that were genuinely beginner-friendly — not "beginner-friendly" in the way that still assumes you know fifteen things before you start, but actually, honestly, starting from zero. When I couldn't always find them, I started making them.

Everything I create comes from real experience of learning something new as someone who is not a digital native, does not have a team behind them, and is figuring it out one step at a time — just like you.

If you are somewhere on that learning curve and looking for a calm, clear guide to help you take the next step, I hope you find something useful here.

Gently forward — one step at a time.

Gently Forward: Practical guides for people who want to move forward — without the overwhelm

Gently Forward is a collection of practical, calm guides for people who are ready to try something new but aren't sure where to start.

Every guide here is designed for real people with real lives — not for people who have hours to spare, perfect technical skills, or endless confidence. If you have ever thought "I'd love to do that, but I wouldn't even know where to begin," you are exactly who this is for.

Guides cover the tools, steps, and mindset shifts that make starting something new feel possible rather than overwhelming. Nothing here assumes you already know what you're doing. Everything here assumes you are capable of learning — because you are.

Simple steps. Honest guidance. No pressure.
