What is a sample?
A sample in music is normally a small part of a pre-existing recording. Famous artists may use samples of well-known songs - with permission - when creating a new song. Your samples will be short original pieces of music that you create yourself, for use by other artists. Your samples might also be loops: pieces of music that can be repeated and will still sound good.
How do I make money selling samples?
You can make money selling samples through online marketplaces for stock music, or you can sell samples directly to customers. Your customers will likely include podcasters and video creators, as well as musicians, songwriters, and anyone else who wants to use short pre-made pieces of music.
Where can I sell samples online?
There are a number of different marketplaces where you can sell samples online, including Loopcloud, Splice, Loopmasters, and ADSR. These can take quite a high commission fee, however. If you want to keep a higher percentage of your earnings, it's better to sell straight to customers. With Payhip, you just pay 5% commission on each sale (no other platform fees) and you retain full control.
Is there a storage limit?
No, we have no storage or bandwidth limits. We only have a 5GB per file limit. If you really need more than 5GB per file, then get in touch.
Do you offer charity discounts
For sure, we love to support great causes of all kinds so please get in touch with us.

How can I sell samples?
You can sell samples through Payhip, easily and without paying anything upfront. Simply create a Payhip account, add a new product, upload your samples (probably in WAV and/or MP3 format), then set a price. You can sell your product through your online storefront, which Payhip provides for free, or through your own website. Payhip takes a small (5%) commission of each sale you make.
How do I price my samples?
It's up to you what to charge for your samples. Normally, you'll put together a pack of samples in the same genre and you could charge anything from $20 to $100 depending on the size of the sample pack. When setting your prices, it's a good idea to look at other similar sample packs or loops so you can price yours accordingly.
Can I make money from Spice?
Yes, you can make money selling samples on Splice. Keep in mind that your sample pack will need to be reviewed by Splice before it appears on the platform. Splice will pay out royalties on your sales, though they don't disclose the exact percentage. Since Splice only costs $7.99/month for users to download up to 100 samples, you won't earn a lot per download on Splice - you might well be better off selling independently through Payhip.
