Artist Reference Photography Licence
All photographs available through Conor's Studio are my own original wildlife photography and are sold specifically for use as artist reference material.
When you purchase a photograph or reference collection, you're purchasing a licence to use that photography as a reference for creating your own original artwork.
Copyright of the original photograph remains with Conor's Studio.
What you can do
You may use purchased reference photographs to:
- Create your own original drawings, paintings, scratchboard artwork and other physical or digital artwork.
- Crop, combine or adapt elements from the photographs when developing your artwork or composition.
- Sell your finished original artwork.
- Sell prints, cards and other reproductions of your finished artwork.
- Display and share your finished artwork online, on social media and in your portfolio.
- Exhibit your finished artwork.
- Enter your artwork into competitions, exhibitions and open calls, subject to the individual organiser's own rules.
- Use your finished artwork commercially.
There is no limit on the number of artworks you can create using a reference you have purchased.
What you can't do
Purchasing a reference does not transfer ownership or copyright of the original photograph to you.
You may not:
- Sell, redistribute, share or give away the original photograph or digital file.
- Upload the original photograph somewhere for other people to download or use.
- Include the photograph in another reference pack, image library, stock photography library or digital product.
- Sell prints or products featuring the photograph itself rather than your own original artwork.
- Claim that you took the original photograph or own its copyright.
- Transfer or resell your licence to another person.
- Use the photographs for AI training, AI image generation, machine-learning datasets or similar purposes.
Your licence is for your use as the original purchaser. If another artist wishes to use the same photograph as a reference, they will need to purchase their own copy.
Creating artwork from the references
The purpose of these references is to give artists the freedom to create their own work from them.
You don't need to ask my permission each time you create something, sell a finished piece, make prints or enter your work into an exhibition or competition.
That's what the licence is there for.
Please remember that individual competitions and exhibitions can have their own rules regarding reference photography, so it's always worth checking their requirements before entering.
Credit
You do not have to credit me when displaying or selling artwork you've created using one of my references.
Credit is always appreciated, though, and if you'd like to include it you can simply use:

Purchasing a photograph or collection grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the photograph as an artist reference under the terms above. It does not transfer copyright or ownership of the original photography.
