About Me

Hugh graduated with an honours Music degree from the University of Manchester in 1981, where he studied clarinet with James Gregson of the Hallé Orchestra and Neville Duckworth of the RNCM. He is based in Scotland where he plays clarinet in the Melville Wind Quintet, bass clarinet in a newly-formed clarinet quartet, tenor sax with the Hulme Saxophone Quartet, saxophones with various big bands, and clarinet and bass clarinet with various orchestras. 


He has sung in choirs of all shapes and sizes since the age of 10. He currently sings tenor with the St Andrews Renaissance Singers; an a Capella chamber choir based in the university town of St Andrews in Scotland.


Outside of music, Hugh enjoys spending time with family and has an interest in early medieval history.
