About Me

Russell is a bit of an all-rounder, budding author, and practical expert in leadership and management, with over 35 years of experience as a successful manager and leader of people. Throughout his career, Russell has held various executive-and-senior level positions in the financial services and educational sectors.

Russell's passion for leadership and management began early on in his career, where he quickly realised that the key to success as a manager was not just technical expertise, but also the ability to inspire and motivate others towards a common goal. Over the years, he became a sought-after mentor and go-to-practical implementer seeking win-win outcomes.

A fifth-generation South African, he has successfully navigated the challenges of leading through organisational change and growth. Having worked internationally for decades, mainly in the Middle East and Asia (currently in Thailand), he is able to share the nuances of managing and leading people across cultures. His Can-Do attitude has sought to answer daily challenges of “How to Make it Happen”, working within policies, procedures, and processes.

Throughout his career, Russell has remained committed to the development of leadership and management skills in others. He has coached and mentored numerous aspiring managers and leaders, and has designed and led training programs to help organisations develop their own leadership pipelines.

In addition to his professional experience, Russell holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, UK, and undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. This is his first foray into publishing, finally putting together all his notes and tips into this practical implementable guide on leadership and management, including "A First-Time Manager's Guide: Tested & Practically Implementable Steps for Success," which he knows will become a go-to resource for new managers looking to succeed in their roles.

Overall, Russell's extensive experience and expertise in leadership and management make him an invaluable resource for anyone looking to improve their skills in these areas.
