Why We Created Nourished

As a homeschool mom for 25 years, I know firsthand the weight and responsibility so many parents carry when it comes to raising their children well.

We spend years pouring ourselves into helping our kids learn, grow, and become capable, healthy, thoughtful adults. We think deeply about the curriculum we choose, the values we teach, the habits we cultivate, and the kind of lives we hope they will build for themselves one day.

These are often the things that keep parents up at night.

Will they know how to care for themselves well?

Will they be confident and capable when they leave home?

Will they understand how to support their health physically, emotionally, and mentally?

Will they be prepared for real life?

For me, nutrition and kitchen confidence became an important part of that conversation.

The middle school years are such a pivotal stage. Kids are growing in independence and beginning to make more of their own choices, especially around food. They are increasingly exposed to a culture filled with convenience foods, advertising, and messages that can make it difficult to understand what truly supports their bodies.

At the same time, this age is full of opportunity.

Kids are curious. They are capable. They can begin learning practical life skills that will stay with them long after graduation — how to prepare meals, grocery shop, contribute in the kitchen, think critically about food choices, and understand how food impacts their energy, focus, mood, growth, and overall well-being.

But our goal with Nourished was never perfection.

We didn’t create this curriculum to encourage fear around food, rigid rules, or unrealistic expectations. We created it to help students build understanding, awareness, confidence, and balance in a positive, approachable, real-life way.

Some of the most meaningful moments as a parent come years later — getting pictures from your college student of meals they made themselves, hearing them talk confidently about caring for their health, or watching them step into adulthood with skills that once started around your own kitchen table.

That heart is what inspired Nourished.

We wanted to create something practical, meaningful, and encouraging for families — something that helps students connect nutrition knowledge with everyday life in a way that truly sticks.

With a heart for raising healthy, capable kids,
