About Sterling Grey

I'm Sterling Grey. Fifty years ago, at twenty-two, I was a stringer for Horse Play magazine and the official photographer for the American Invitational in Tampa, and I made the cover two years running. I worked as a professional photographer for the five decades that followed, and I have retired from shooting.

What stayed with me is everything the job taught me away from the camera: the email you dread writing, the release you wish you had signed, the client who goes quiet after delivery. I have been making things for other people to use since my first Mac in 1984. These days that means The Client Book and XtremeCamera, a proofing gallery I built because nothing else worked the way a photographer thinks.

Everything in this shop is a digital download, written for working photographers by someone who did the work. If you have a question before or after you buy, use the Contact page. I answer it myself.

The photograph is mine: Robert Ridland and Damn Yankee at the American Invitational, from Horse Play, June/July 1978.
