Cassie Black is back! (NEW BOOK ALERT)

Hello Everyone!

This day has been a long time coming, and you probably already figured this out from the email subject line, but I'm finally able to say...

It's release day for The Unusual Mayor Marheart (The Cassie Black Trilogy #4).

(that's your cue to shout "hoorah!")

Once you've finished with your hoorah-ing, below you'll find...

  • The usual but still very heart-felt, gushing thanks
  • Exciting award news
  • Colorful graphics (aka "evidence of me procrastinating")
  • The Creative Cobblestones of Doom
  • All the many and marvelous ways you can get your copy
  • A sample from the book and its description

The gushing thanks bit...

I owe a HUGE THANKS to all of you from my review team and from the Ripping Scribblers Writing Group who read the book and gave me your honest feedback. A couple of you helped point out a very pesky plot hole (which, unlike a pothole, can't be fixed by slapping asphalt over it... not that I didn't try).

As ever, your wonderful comments served as fuel to keep me from ditching this whole project when the usual fear of "OMG this is the worst thing I've ever written. Can't I just hide in the cat's cardboard box and knit car-fur mittens?" took hold

So thank you.

My cat thanks you too... she doesn't like to share her cardboard box.

And then there's the astounding (and, frankly, surprising) number of you who I have to thank for pre-ordering the book (it really makes a difference both to the retailers and to my own writerly confidence).

And, well, this gratitude thing could go on and on, so how about we continue on with the celebrating?

Exciting Award News

So, there are unexpected surprises, and there are falling-on-the-floor-with-shock surprises.

And at the beginning of the month, I had the latter when the lovely promo team over at Kobo sent me an email saying they'd chosen The Unusual Mayor Marheart as one of their Books of the Month for July, along with a fancy graphic to spread far and wide.

Now, my first question was, "How can a book that hasn't even been released be a Book of the Month?"

Then I said (I talk to myself a lot), "Why are you questioning this? Just bask in the bookish glory!"

So, I basked as well as I could, and then I got a little giggle when I saw Mayor Marheart sitting right next to Keanu Reeves (his book, not the man himself).

Anyway, happy news aside, let's continue with the release party.

Stumbling over the Creativity Cobblestones of Doom

Those of you who have been with me for a while now might remember that, under my self-imposed publishing deadline, I promised this new trilogy would be all done and dusted last year.

As Douglas Adams once said, "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."

Last year was not good times for me, and this project got FAR more complicated than I intended (which you can read about in the Behind the Scenes bit at the end of the book), meaning I simply did not have the brain capacity for it.

And so I made you wait.

I hated doing that.

Seriously, I felt like the worst person on the planet for going back on that promise (and I still feel bad that it's taken me until July to get this new Cassie misadventure to you).

But my brain is back to normal (well, as normal as it gets), the words and ideas are flowing (too much sometimes), and although it means "time off" is something that happens to other people, I'm cranking out this new trilogy for you as fast as I can manage. I promise : )

Now, let's stop all this navel-gazing and get some bits of Cassie into your hands...

....Um, sorry, that sounded a tad more gruesome than I intended.

Want to try a Sample?

If you missed the four-chapter sample of Cassie's latest antics, you can read some or all of the chapters HERE

And let's wrap things up with a description....

Cassie Black is back, and she’s now heading up MagicLand’s newest detective agency.

Well, sort of.

Cassie Black may have just defeated an evil wizard, but that hasn’t stopped her from getting kicked out of the Academy’s detective training program.

The upside is that it’s forced Cassie to start her own agency. The downside? A complete lack of clients.

Cassie thinks her career is on the upswing when Rosaria’s new mayor hires her to find a missing jewel. It’s a huge case that could turn the agency around. Trouble is, the jewel hasn’t been seen for well over 500 years, and Cassie suspects there’s more to the mayor’s sudden demands the jewel be found ASAP.

What’s more… something besides tea is brewing over at Magic HQ, but thanks to a little snag in the Magic bureaucracy, Cassie isn’t allowed to lend her skills to the problem.

In fact, if she doesn’t sort out that bit of bureaucracy in the next few days, her sleuthing career will be over before it ever begins.

It all has Cassie looking wistfully back on the days when all she had to do was save the world.

If you like contemporary fantasy filled with wry humor, paranormal mystery, and diabolical office chairs, you’ll love the twists and turns of this start to an all-new trilogy featuring Cassie Black.

Story Note: This is book four of the “hilarious” and highly recommended” Cassie Black Trilogy. Yes, “book four”, because trilogies refuse to be tamed! But, because it kicks off an all-new unputdownable, laugh-snort filled fight against evil, you can enjoy this new trilogy without having read Books 1 - 3. Books 5 & 6 will be out in late 2024.

Order your copy of The Unusual Mayor Marheart today!

But wait... there's one last sales-y tidbit...

If you haven't read the first three Cassie Black books (recommended, but not essential to enjoy the new book), you can now find The Unreal Cassie Black Bundle at my Payhip Bookstore and a handful of other retailers.

Have a great week, everyone!
