Hello Again!
I know, it's been a while since I posted on here...oops....
Anyway, this is just a quick book review post to share a couple reading favorites from October.
Now, October was a weird reading month for me, mainly because I wasn't feeling well much of the month...it's tough to read when you just want to sleep (and to remember to add to your shop's blog).
My plan had been to read a bunch of spooky stories to get into the Halloween sprit, but so much for plans...
Anyway, I did make it through one gem with my sleepy eyes, and enjoyed another treat with my ears.
First up...
Black Ice by Carin Gerhardsen
The "eyeball" book (not actually about eyeballs, so disappointing) was Black Ice by Carin Gerhardsen. I've become absolutely addicted to Scandi-noir this year, so was thrilled when I came across this Swedish thriller.
This story revolves around a fatal car crash in 2014 and trying to discover what exactly happened that night. Sounds pretty straightforward, right?
Well, it's not.
Carin does an amazing job at weaving together several story lines that all begin with a crash on a forest road in 2014. Just when you think you've got things sorted out, Carin tosses in another twist and another twist and another twist. Seriously, this book should be called Pretzel, it's got so many twists!
The bad guy did become apparent to me early on, but I still kept reading because I couldn't wait to see how the author handled getting all the pieces together.
If you like thrillers or even true crime, Black Ice might be a good fit for you.
And next, we have...
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
The ear treat was A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. This is the second time I've read this (first time listening) and I'd forgotten how funny it is.
Moore's dark humor is a huge influence on my own quirky sense of silly, and this reminded me how much I really need to go back and re-read (or listen to) his books.
Anyway, A Dirty Job is the story of a guy who ends up becoming Death when things go wrong soon after his daughter's birth.
Yes, that sounds depressing, but Charlie's bumbling attempts to figure out what in the world he's doing, the cast of unique characters, and Moore's snarky writing make the whole thing hilarious.
If you like laughing at death, give this one a try.
