Hello Everyone!
Egad! July is approaching faster than a bullet train with a tail wind.
Which means the release of The Unusual Mayor Marheart is approaching even faster (because that's how Writing Physics works).
I've spent the past month trying to forget this fourth book of the Cassie Black Trilogy as much as possible, so I can give it one final panic-laden read through this month.
Instead, I've been keeping busy with the third draft -- maybe fourth, I've lost track at this point -- of The Unbearable Inspector Oberlin (aka "Book 5").
This has been a pretty intense draft, meaning weekends have been something that happens to other people.
But, after a lot of re-writing and moving things around, the story has cobbled together nicely.
And so far, all the hard work to set everything up properly in The Unusual Mayor Marheart has paid off. Let's just hope that stays true when I start in on Book 6 of this new Cassie Black Trilogy.
And yes, my poor brain is very confused as to what book I'm working on when I sit down to the computer each morning.
Anyway, my wonderful Review Team currently has The Unusual Mayor Marheart in their hands so they can pass their critical judgement over it... always nerve-racking.
But I don't want the rest of you to feel left out.
Which is why I've gone ahead and thrown the first four chapters of the book up on their very own webpage so you can get taste-tempting sample of Cassie's latest mayhem.
So, if you're ready for some gardeners having trouble, some walrus encounters, and some runaway sourdough, just pop on over to THIS PAGE.
And, if you happen to be ready to pre-order a copy of the book prior to its 16 July release date, you'll find the links you'll need below (and on that sample chapter page as well, since part of being a writer these days is also being a pushy salesman).
Where to pre-oder The Unusual Mayor Marheart...
- Right here on my Payhip Bookstore
- At most major ebook retailers
For the paperback lovers out there... due to the way print publishing systems work, I can't set up my "real" books for pre-order, but they will be available on release day!!!

Cassie Black is back, and she’s now heading up MagicLand’s newest detective agency.
Well, sort of.
Cassie Black may have just defeated an evil wizard, but that hasn’t stopped her from getting kicked out of the Academy’s detective training program. The upside is that it’s forced Cassie to start her own agency. The downside? A complete lack of clients.
Cassie thinks her career is on the upswing when Rosaria’s new mayor hires her to find a missing jewel. It’s a huge case that could turn the agency around. Trouble is, the jewel hasn’t been seen for well over 500 years, and Cassie suspects there’s more to the mayor’s sudden demands the jewel be found ASAP.
What’s more… something besides tea is brewing over at Magic HQ, but thanks to a little snag in the Magic bureaucracy, Cassie isn’t allowed to lend her skills to the problem. In fact, if she doesn’t sort out that bit of bureaucracy in the next few days, her sleuthing career will be over before it ever begins.
It all has Cassie looking wistfully back on the days when all she had to do was save the world.
If you like contemporary fantasy filled with wry humor, paranormal mystery, and diabolical office chairs, you’ll love the twists and turns of this start to an all-new trilogy featuring Cassie Black.
Story Note: This is book four of the “hilarious” and highly recommended” Cassie Black Trilogy. Yes, “book four”, because trilogies refuse to be tamed! But, because it kicks off an all-new unputdownable, laugh-snort filled fight against evil, you can enjoy this new trilogy without having read Books 1 - 3. Books 5 & 6 will be out in late 2024.
