Hello Everyone!
You probably already figured this out from this post's subject line, but it's time again to say...
It's release day!
And because I've spent the last several months confused as to what book I'm working on at any given time, let me clarify that it's release day for The Unbearable Inspector Oberlin (The Cassie Black Trilogy #5).
Right? No really, I'm asking you (seriously, so confused...)
Anyway, once you've finished helping me sort out my work brain, below you'll find...
- Some very heart-felt, gushing thanks
- Colorful graphics (aka "evidence of me procrastinating")
- Notecards, so many notecards.
- All the many and marvelous ways you can get your copy
- A sample from the book and its description
- Your subscriber treat (which, sadly, is not cake or champagne or walrus treats)
The gushing thanks bit...
I'm going to go back in time with this bit of gushing thanks and say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already read and reviewed The Unusual Mayor Marheart (Book 4). To be honest, I was completely floored by the number of pre-orders and enthusiasm for that book, so if I haven't said it already... THANK YOU again and again.
To everyone who has pre-ordered Book 5, you get a triple dose of thanks. Pre-orders may seem silly in this "in an instant" day and age, but they really do draw a retailer's attention to a book. Plus, it's very exciting to see your continued interest in my silly words.
And of course, to my review team... you are superstars! Your early reviews and your encouraging comments are like big old slices of chocolate cake fueling my writer energy. So many thanks (and even more thanks to my typo hunters...you are super-duper stars).
Before I go too far down Gratitude Road, how about we sidetrack to Celebration Avenue?
Notecards, So Many Notecards
I'm going to be honest.... The Unbearable Inspector Oberlin did not have the smoothest of starts. Actually, things didn't start going smoothly until sometime after Draft Four, which is a long way in for me not to have nailed down the story line.
Going into this book I had only two scenes in mind. One at the start and one at the end.
Which would make for a very quick read, but not a very substantive one.
So I began writing Scenes I Knew Needed to Happen (and a few scenes just for fun). And while this did fill in a whole lotta chapters, I had no idea what order those chapters should go in.
Which had me reaching for the notecards, and which resulted in this mess on the kitchen table one Sunday afternoon...
I know there's "computer" ways to make notecards and shift them about, but I'm old school and I still prefer to physically push the cards here and there, make additional notes on them... and keep the cat from sprawling all over them.
Surprisingly, this actually worked and the arrangement I (and the cat) made that day ended up being pretty much the final order of that jumble of scenes and chapters I'd come up with.
Which was good, because the next idea was to throw the cards into the air and arrange the book's chapters based on how the cards landed. Which would make for a very avant-garde-Pulp-Fiction-esque story.
Anyway, there's more about the book in the actual book, so how about we get some books into your hands!?

And let's wrap things up with a description....
Book burning.
Jewel stealing.
Vampire hunting.
Not exactly what I expected from a day’s work as a detective, but at least things are no longer dull at the agency.
Although I don’t know how much longer the doors to that agency will be open, since the due date for getting my detective license just went whizzing by faster than a fairy on pixie dust.
But, after making good use of my groveling skills, HQ has given me an extension to solve a case and complete my application. Which would be great if the only clients I have weren’t dead clients, missing clients, and persnickety clients.
I’m also contending with a boyfriend who’s refusing to speak to me, there's a vampire uprising close on the horizon, and more Magics going missing by the day, including my own parents (yes, again).
But the worst problem in my life right now?
A bubbly new assistant, who not only believes we’re besties, but also thinks hugging is permitted.
Seriously, I’ll take a vampire uprising over that, any day.
If you like wryly humorous comic fantasy with a touch of paranormal mystery, magic gone awry, treasure-stealing ravens, and problematic trips to the British Library, you’ll love this fifth installment of the Cassie Black Trilogy.
Note – The Unbearable Inspector Oberlin continues the story begun in The Unusual Mayor Marheart. Now, if you want to take a stab at reading this without reading the previous book, well, you do you. But, if you want to understand what's going on, you should probably peruse The Unusual Mayor Marheart before diving into this book.
Order your copy of The Unbearable Inspector Oberlin today!
