Ever wonder what secrets your family is really hiding? Is there something dark in their past? A hidden indulgence someone just couldn't risk?
Even if you don't, Caleb's family does. And in the latest short story addition to my shop, he finds out just how delicious that secret is.
I wrote Family Secrets many years ago, maybe in 2013, 2015, sometime around then.
It's yet another tale that was inspired by one of the lines from First Line Literary Journal, but I actually wrote it for Writers Journal (they had a very strict word limit, so it's a super short story).
Unfortunately, the magazine folded just as I was about to hit send, so I'll never know if it would have been accepted. Still, it's a fun little tale about minding your parents.

Caleb's been told by his parents not to open the door for any reason while they're out on their monthly date night.
This is fine with Caleb. After all, he's got a new Vengeance World video game to play. But really, the game is multi-player. What would be the harm in inviting a friend Aaron over to help him blast away the bad guys?
It's only after Aaron rings the bell that Caleb discovers why he should have listened to his parents. Then again, it was such a delicious discovery.
