Would you like a side of puns with your frog legs? (Book Review)

Hello Book Fiends!

When the pandemic first struck last year, i dashed into my library's ebook lending system and selected TONS of humorous fiction because I think we can all agree we needed some levity in our lives.

Some of the books were hilarious (and I'll probably get reviews for them up on here sometime soon). Unfortunately, most of the books weren't that funny, they were just romance novels that had somehow gotten a "humor" label slapped on them.

Oh well. Just glad I got them from the library and didn't pay for them.

Still, this humor frenzy has kept me on the search for funny tomes. And one of the latest in that laugh-worthy bunch was Gretel and the Case of the mIssing Frog Prints. This was written by PJ Brackstone, who also goes by Paula Brackstone for her historical fantasy books such as The Witch's Daughter and The Secrets of the Chocolate House (mmm....chocolate!!!).

But let's get on with this review for a book from her fantasy crime series, The Brothers Grimm Mysteries....

Gretel and the Case of the Missing Frog Prints by PJ Brackstone

This was absolutely hilarious.

It's been about 30 years since Hansel and Gretel have had their incident with the witch. They're now adults and living well...and their waistlines show it.

Gretel is now a well-known detective with a penchant for dresses and wigs but lacking the riches to fully indulge in her tastes.

In this book, she's on the case of the missing frog prints...yes, there are puns galore in this silly, yet wonderful-crafted story. The mystery is nicely done and all the characters have their own marvelous quirks. Now, although it is about Hansel and Gretel, this is not for the kiddies. In fact, Gretel ends up having to go undercover in a brothel...and it's downright gut-bustingly funny.

The main complaint is a few characters who are meant to be funny come off as downright annoying, but overall this is a great book for anyone looking for a good laugh and a mystery full of delightful twists and turns.

If you pick this up, let me know how you like it. And if you've already read it, what was your favorite part, pun, or character?
