Personal Protection Officer (PPO)
✔️ Personal Protection Officer (PPO)
This credential authorizes you to provide executive/dignitary protection services.
It is above Level II (unarmed) and Level III (armed).
To enroll in Level IV, you must already have a Level III (armed) license.
Personal Protection Officer (PPO)
🎓 1. A Level IV Certificate of Completion
This is the official document showing you finished the PPO classroom instruction and passed the exam.
It is required to apply for your PPO license.
📄 2. Documentation & Instructions for Licensing
Training providers typically give you:
- Your Level IV certificate (PDF/printable)
- Instructions for submitting a Personal Protection Officer (PPO) application
- Any additional forms required by your state licensing agency
🔫 3. Requirements You Must Complete In-Person (Not Online)
Even if the classroom portion is online, Level IV training requires in-person skills verification, including:
✔️ Firearms proficiency (must be current from Level III)
✔️ Demonstration of defensive tactics / third-party protection skills
✔️ OC/pepper spray proficiency (if required in your state)
You cannot complete Level IV fully online — some practical components must be done in person.
🪪 4. Eligibility to Apply for a Personal Protection Officer License
Once you complete:
- Level III (armed) license
- Level IV training
- In-person proficiency verification
- Background check / updated fingerprints
- Application fee
…you can then apply for your PPO license, which authorizes you to provide executive/dignitary protection services.
⚠️ Important Licensing Note
You are not legally a Level IV/PPO until the state approves your license.
Completing the online course alone is not enough.
