Thanks to Tina’s Toasty Toes for providing the yarn for the pattern sample!

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors

The pattern calls for 924yds/844m/400g DK weight yarn in total - 231yds/211m/100g in each of four coordinating colors. Three skeins are used for the body and a fourth for the edging.

To achieve the look of the sample, use a colorful colorway like a variegated or speckle and two coordinating tonals or solids for the body. The edging can be done in any color that matches all three skein used in the body.

You can also have fun with the colors in the body - use three solids, three variegateds, self-striping, a gradient, or anything else! Work the body in one color, in solid color blocks, or whatever else strikes your fancy! I recommend using a solid or tonal for the edging so the lace is clearly visible.

The pattern includes instructions for working to a percentage of the yardage for the body so you can easily customize the yardage or yarn weight - the pattern works well with anything from a fingering to a worsted. The edging is designed to use approximately 1/4 of the total yardage, but you can additional/fewer row repeats to use more/less yardage.

Size

74”/188cm wingspan; 26”/66cm deep. The pattern can be adjusted in width and depth.

The body of the Bonfire Shawl features three colors, worked in stripes. The colors are carried up the side via chain stitches, the chain stitches create a barber pole style edging. Along the bottom of the shawl, there's a lace edging worked in a contrasting color.

Printing

Both a regular and printer friendly version are available! The regular version includes large photos on the first page and the last two pages, so print accordingly. The printer-friendly version has only one photo on the cover page, and less spacing so the pattern takes up fewer pages. If you are working from the printer-friendly version and are having trouble with a pattern, I strongly recommend checking the regular version. The text will be easier to read and it might have more detailed instructions.

Screen Reader Compatibility

The main pattern pdf is designed to be screen reader compatible. The text is all in one column and headers are formatted according to the style sheet. The pattern is written out completely and the images have descriptive alt text. Please note that the last row of the edging has nested repeats, which may make it more challenging to follow with a screen reader.
