Toasty
Toasty
Toasty is a funnel-neck loose-fitting but warm cowl, perfect for Autumn or Winter when the wind bites and extra warmth is needed around your neck and shoulders. This cowl is knit in the round at a loose gauge, in Aran/worsted weight yarn held together with silk-mohair or similar fluffy laceweight yarn. It is designed to take advantage of the heat trapping properties of silk-mohair / silk-alpaca / other fluffy laceweight yarn. This design has alternating panels of stocking stitch and moss stitch.
Instructions are given for both a narrow and wide cowl. The narrow fits a teen or small adult (neck circ 36 cm / 14 ½” ), the wide fits a medium or large adult (neck circ 43 cm / 17 ¼” ).
You can make Toasty in any length and any width you want, but yarn requirements may be affected. Adjust the length by knitting more rounds; adjust the width by increasing the cast on stitches in multiples of 10.
Two sizes, narrow (wide), are given here. Finished size of the gold and cream sample (narrow) shown is 29 cm /11 ½” long x 36 cm / 14 ½” in circumference at the neck (unstretched). Finished size of the green sample (wide) shown is 27 cm /10 ¾” long x 43 cm / 17 ¼” in circumference at the neck (unstretched).
Any Aran or worsted weight yarn and any fluffy laceweight are suitable for this pattern, but swatch first to ensure you have the right gauge. Yarn requirements for the samples shown:
