A World War II strategy game where students don’t just learn about D Day. They command it.

Students take control of the massive Allied invasion of Normandy and quickly discover that D Day was not just a beach landing. It was a complex operation that required naval bombardment, airborne drops, covering fire, Higgins boats, combat engineers, beach exits, inland movement, supply, timing, and coordination.

In this interactive strategy game, students must use limited Command Points to make smart decisions. Every action matters. If they rush the landing, send engineers too early, forget to lift covering fire, or push troops forward before the beach is clear, they see the consequences unfold on the map. If they plan carefully, troops land, engineers clear hedgehogs, paratroopers hold key positions, soldiers fight their way inland, and Allied forces push toward victory.

This resource includes the playable HTML game plus a companion article and worksheet with historical context, photographs, maps, and reflection questions. It is designed to make D Day feel like a real operational challenge instead of a simple textbook event.

Students will explore:

Operation Overlord and the Normandy invasion

Why naval support and airborne troops mattered

The danger of beach obstacles and German defenses

The role of Higgins boats and combat engineers

Why timing, coordination, and sequencing were critical

How military decisions create tradeoffs and consequences

Perfect for a World War II unit, D Day lesson, military strategy activity, station rotation, game based review, or enrichment activity.
