Civil War Stratego: Why the Union Won is a turn-based, hidden-information strategy game that models the Civil War as a contest of logistics, manpower, industry, and time rather than just battlefield brilliance. Inspired by classic Stratego-style gameplay, students must plan movements, manage limited actions, and engage in uncertain battles where outcomes depend on resources and long-term advantages.

Players command either the Union or the Confederacy on an 8×8 battlefield with fog of war, hidden units, and asymmetric powers. Each side has unique strengths that mirror historical reality. The Union benefits from railroads, naval control, industrial production, and replacement capacity. The Confederacy relies on home-field defense, cavalry raids, guerrilla tactics, and selective engagements. While either side can win, the game is intentionally designed to demonstrate why the Union’s structural advantages tend to prevail over time.
