I live in rural Lincolnshire, in a small village on the edge of the Wolds. My part of Lincolnshire is renowned for its big skies and lovely landscapes and this pattern, which is part of my Lincolnshire Shawlscapes, reflects the history of the arable land which surrounds my village. Centuries ago farmland that you now see around the Wolds would once have been a complex patchwork of tiny arable strips. You can see the ghosts of these strips in some fields and this feature is known as ‘ridge and furrow’.

The shawl itself has a finished size of approximately 165 x 35cms. It’s a triangular shape, worked from a narrow beginning and slowly increasing in size.

I used yarn from Wool is the Answer shades “Smidge of Magenta”, “Smidge of Emerald Green”, “Smidge of Orange” as the contrasts in 50gm balls (these are CC1, CC2 and CC3) and “Tropical Splash" as the main shade (MC) in a 100 gm ball. However, it is also suitable to be knit with one colour throughout – in which case you will need 2 x 100 gm balls, or with mini skeins to use as the contrasting colour in which case you will need 1 x 100 gm main shade plus 5 x 20gm mini skeins. Final size is approximately 165cm x 35cm
