May Day is celebrated in many Western cultures in honor of Spring. When creating this design, the image of dancers moving around the pole with a colored ribbon came so vividly to mind and I set out to see how I could replicate that image into a cowl design. Using cables and fair-isle knitting, I was able to create a pattern where two strips of color wound themselves around the body of the cowl, like the colored ribbon winding themselves around the pole.

This pattern also represents the joy of Spring, through the usage of happy colors. Spring still can be a bit chilly though, so bundling up in a cowl is needed sometimes!

Yarns Used: Tibetan Cashmere Worsted by mYAK (Worsted; 100% Cashmere Goat; 125 yards / 50 grams). 1 skein in Natural, 1 skein in Jangser (62 yds) and 1 skein in Mumen Metok (62 yds).

Needle: US7, (4.5mm) and US8 (5 mm) 24” (61 cm) circular needle.
Yardage: 280 yards (256 m).
Gauge: 20 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in cabled stitch pattern, after blocking.
Other Notions: Cable needle, stitch marker.
Final Measurements: A (circumference): 24 inches (61 cm) B: 10 inches (25.5 cm)
