Sample Yarn: Malabrigo Dos Tierras and Caprino
Malabrigo yarn is perfect for Berkshires Cowl! The Pattern Tailor can create a Berkshires Cowl in any of the Malabrigo collection yarns. Have some fun and use non-matching yarn weights or add textured yarn to add to the design. Have the perfect yarn in your stash? That works too.
- The pink yarn shown is called Neverland, in Dos Tierras from Malabrigo. Dos Tierras is a 2 by 2 ply yarn: Each ply is 2-ply, plied, before the two resulting plies are plied together.
- Persia is the color of the teal yarn seen in the sample, in Caprino, also from Malabrigo. The inside (top) fabric shows the horizontal stripes created by knitting two colors (one at a time). The outside vertical stripes are the result of the elongated and slipped stitches.
Before this became Berkshires Cowl I had a single ball of Oatmeal-colored DK yarn and lots of colorful fingering yarn which seemed the perfect pairing. I do not remember how I settled on working this stitch pattern, which I kind of made up using familiar stitch patterns.
Notes on Techniques
K1-wrapping 2x/3x. Work the extra wraps into the non-slip stitches on the previous round. Use the same color as the previous three rows/rounds. There are several options for working the extra wraps. See videos in Section 1.
Slip stitches. The yarn is always on the WS when slipping stitches in Slough stitch as slip stitches are "slip as to purl" unless specifically told otherwise.
Dropping extra wraps. Slip the first YO as to purl, allowing the other YOs to drop off the needle. On subsequent rows/rounds you can slip the two stitches together. You will be working the row/round where extra wraps are dropped in the other color.
