This self-guided walk is in two parts and with two maps as you will take a cable car halfway.

The first part, which is about 2.5 miles, takes you to Turtle Bay in the UN diplomatic missions district and then along part of the 2nd Ave.

This will be an opportunity to visit the UN, several art galleries, a park with a waterfall and a huge antique store.

The second part of about 1.5 miles is at Roosevelt Island, the countryside in the city where you will find places to sit and picnic.

From there, you will have great views along the East River, first towards Manhattan then towards Long Island City.

At the end of the walk, you will have the option to board a ferry that will take you on the East River to the southern tip of Manhattan (or to other destinations if you prefer).

Otherwise, you’ll also have the option to take the cable car in the opposite direction or a metro.

If you just want to explore Roosevelt Island and then take the ferry to Astoria, choose Walk in NYC # 6 instead.

You’ll see sculptures, a museum, murals, a large park under two majestic bridges, Orthodox churches, an art gallery and a lively, traditionally Greek neighborhood,

NB: if you have not already done so on another site, you can read the philosophy and general content of this itinerary by opening the “About the walks” link above or below.
