This self-guided walk, in two parts and with two maps, first takes you to a Roosevelt Island that you won't have seen if you followed Walk in NYC # 5.

Less visited, it will probably be a better overview of the life on the island than its more touristy southern tip.

You will be far from the noise of the city with superb views of Manhattan on one side, Queens on the other, the discovery of a historic house and a church on a square that will make you think of a village in Europe.

Then, you will have to take a ferry to Astoria, a neighborhood in Queens off the beaten track.

You will then see murals, outdoor sculptures, a Japanese museum (by making a detour), typical suburban houses, Greek Orthodox churches, an art gallery and authentic Greek restaurants since you will be in a traditionally Greek neighborhood (although it is becoming more and more international).

If you only want to go to the southern tip of Roosevelt Island, the UN and a part of Manhattan that is not very visited but very lively, take Walk in NYC # 5 instead.
