Everybody Loves My Baby
Here's my transcription of Fats' short but sweet opening piano solo to Everybody Loves My Baby, another song by Fats' friend Spencer Williams. Fats only does the one "solo" chorus of this classic jazz standard but it's brilliant and memorable enough to include.
Note how in the middle 8 section, Fats reduces the melody to repeated off-beat, grace-noted octaves in the RH and moving tenths (sometimes full triad tenths!) in the LH - an effective way to paraphrase the melody when performing a stride interpretation. N.B. The LH is barely audible for the bars leading into this section so some guesses were necessary!
