Bach Up To Me
Here's Bach Up To Me, the 3rd instalment of my transcription series of the so-called "Swingopation" group of instrumentals by Fats Waller and His Rhythm from 1936. It's a fun tune reminiscent of Christopher Columbus in parts with a nice contrary motion happening with the melody and bass line. I've included all of Fats' solos because they're just too good not to.
It's well known that Fats had a deep love of Bach so it's a very relevant if not light-hearted homage. I've included Charles Turner's double bass solo at the start as it's crucial to the initial run-through of the tune and Fats' accompaniment creates a nice counterpoint. When Fats says "Bach is very fugal this morning", he knows what he's talking about!
Admittedly, a lot of Fats' left hand is barely audible in the recording so I've made a few guesses here and there.
