Generate colored overlays for Font Metrics measurements
This InDesign script automatically generates colored overlays showing em-square, x-height, cap height, ascender, and descender measurements on your selected text, complete with customizable labels in multiple units.
Bonus > Set Metric Height 1.0
Set Metric Height lets you resize selected text so that its Cap-height or x-height matches an exact measurement in any unit. Instead of guessing a point size, you choose the metric, enter the desired value and the script calculates the precise point size needed. The dialog shows the current font, style and metric value, and defaults to your document's units. One click and the text is resized in a single undoable step
The story behing the script:
A casual Sunday morning chat with Lukas Engqist turned into an impromptu scripting session. The goal? Extract font metrics from InDesign for specific fonts and sizes. With some brainstorming and help from MATE for InDesign, we got it and ended up with something visually cool. Not bad for a lazy Sunday.
