Para and Staff De-escalation PD Bundle for Special Education, High School Teams
Five deescalation PD resources for paras and school staff in one download, numbered in the order I would use them, with a one page Start Here plan.
Who it is for: special education teachers, coordinators, coaches, and principals who want a semester of short, practical behavior PD for paras and staff without hiring an outside presenter. It works for any grade, with extra support for secondary and transition teams.
Why I made this: I have trained teachers in crisis prevention and deescalation for 15 years, and I have more than 20 years in education. The trainings that stick are short, repeated, and run by someone in the building. These five resources build on each other: a quick para huddle first, then the whole staff, then the full method.
What's included (5 resources plus a 1 page Start Here):
• 1 Calm Moves for Paras: a 20 minute para module with 18 slides and speaker notes (PowerPoint and PDF), facilitator notes, Say This, Not That handout, a 10 question check with answer key, and a certificate (9 PDF pages)
• 2 Rate the Response: a 45 slide deck with speaker notes and 20 scenario cards in a 6 page PDF, where staff rate what the adult did
• 3 Deescalation Staff Training Toolkit: a 15 page PDF with a facilitator guide and three agendas, staff handouts, verbal scripts, and 12 scenario cards
• 4 Refusal Toolkit for Paras and Teams: a 16 page PDF with a one page staff guide, 8 practice scenarios, a team agreement, and family letters, plus a 12 slide 20 minute training deck (PDF)
• 5 Calm the Room Method Staff PD Kit: a 20 slide editable deck with the script in the notes, a 60 minute facilitator script, four 15 minute modules, a district rollout guide, scenario guides by grade band, and 14 pages of handouts (41 PDF pages plus the slides)
How I use it: Week 1, Calm Moves in a para huddle. Weeks 2 to 4, one Rate the Response moment at the start of each staff meeting. Next PD block, the Staff Training Toolkit. When refusal comes up, the Refusal Toolkit. On an in service day, or over a month of PLCs, the full Calm the Room kit. After winter break I run Calm Moves again.
What you download: one zip (about 8 MB) with a Start Here PDF and five numbered folders, 33 files in all: PDFs on US Letter and three editable PowerPoint decks that open in PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote.
Price: bought one at a time these five resources total $106.99. The bundle is $84.99, so you save $22.00, about 21 percent.
Scope: everything here is everyday calm support, not emergency or restraint protocol training, and none of it is a certification. Follow your district's crisis procedures and the student's IEP or behavior plan.
