Honeysuckle Rose Soundie
One of Fats' most famous tunes, Honeysuckle Rose as performed on his "Soundie" from 1941.
Here it's given an up-tempo treatment, quite a different approach from the original rather mellow version with His Rhythm back in 1934. The tune had become an entrenched standard and popular jamming vehicle for Fats and his players.
N.B. the clever harmonic "turnaround" Fats does towards the end. This little "trick" crops up numerous times in Fats' playing from as early as Numb Fumblin' back in 1929!
The intro and ending I adapted, as authentically as possible, for the sake of performance and due to poor audio quality of the recording!
