[SPH] Type I Rifle
The Type I Rifle was a bolt-action rifle produced for Imperial Japan during the late 1930s, primarily for use by the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was chambered in 6.5×50mmSR Arisaka and featured a five-round internal magazine loaded via stripper clips. The rifle had a 780mm barrel, an overall length of 1,260mm, and weighed approximately 3.8 kg.
Unlike standard Japanese rifles, the Type I was manufactured in Italy by Beretta, Brescia, and other Italian arsenals using a Carcano-based receiver combined with a Mauser-style bolt-action system, similar to the Arisaka Type 38. This hybrid design was intended to supplement Japan’s rifle production as it expanded its military efforts in China and the Pacific.
The Type I lacked the chrysanthemum marking found on standard Japanese service rifles and did not have an integrated bayonet lug. Though it was reliable and functionally similar to the Type 38, it saw limited production, with around 60,000 units delivered before Japan shifted focus to domestic arms manufacturing. By World War II, it remained in service with naval troops and rear-line units, but was eventually phased out in favor of standard Arisaka rifles.
