Reading Made Simple Level 1 Worksheets

Here is a pack of 39, double-sided A4 worksheets to accompany the Reading Made Simple Phonic reading and writing programme.

They are suitable for a child who can already read but is doing Level 1 as a spelling/writing programme, or a remedial spelling course for an older child.

Tracking

The child looks for words containing the new sound in a short passage. This passage only contains words that have been taught in the current and previous lessons. It is therefore graded reading material so helpful in building reading fluency and confidence.

Questions:

The questions are designed to check comprehension. Written answers can be given using only the vocabulary the child has learned to spell.

Labelling pictures

This should be done accurately, including the number of items/plurals. Words from other families with the same sound are often included to give revision, where applicable.

Proofreading exercises are a time-honoured way to train children to check spot mistakes. Many find this great fun.
