My parents grew up in the 1930s and 40s when a lot of songs were silly. We sang a number of the hits from that era in the car during our summer vacations. One of my favorites was always the whimsical little song, Mairzy Doats. The stitch pattern used for this sock is an adaptation of the ivy pattern, which naturally recalled me to those trips we used to take, filled with sunshine and silly songs—this silly song in particular, because of the end of the refrain: “… and little lambs eat ivy.”

Sock is worked from the cuff down. It has a standard slip-stitch heel flap, and grafted toe. Pattern is written in three sizes.
