I designed this sock for a sock club about a million years ago. Hm. Well. It was actually in 2009. Wow. Really? Anyway, I was approached by a yarn shop that ran a regular club back then, looking for a new design. We tossed some ideas back and forth. She had always loved Robert Frost’s poem Birches. She sent her color ideas off to the dyer, and I found the perfect little birch leaf stitch. This design is the result.

The stitch is a cascade of tiny birch leaves, accented with either nupps or beads on the cuff, or not. Sock is knit from the toe up. Pattern is written for three sizes.
  • Yarn: Fingering weight sock yarn.
  • Model: Pigeonroof Studios, 1 hank Winter Birch, size medium.
  • Gauge: 8 sts to 1 inch in stockinette in the round.
  • Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm).
  • Crochet hook: US 13 (.85 mm), or size to fit through bead (only if you add beads).
  • Finished size: size 8/0 seed beads, iris finish, dark bronze (optional).
  • Stitch instructions: Charted and written.
