The Volatile Miner: Grand Economy is a fast-paced, arcade-style economics simulation that turns abstract macroeconomic concepts into physical, lived experiences. Students do not read about inflation, monopoly, recessions, or market crashes. They move through them, dodge them, survive them, and make real trade-offs inside them throughout the course of 10 levels, each representative of different macro econ concepts.

Players take on the role of a resource miner and market participant with a grappling hook navigating nine escalating economic environments, from free markets and inflation to monopoly, recession, hyperinflation, deregulation, and total market collapse. Each level visually and mechanically represents a different economic condition. Enemies embody market forces, price volatility responds to global events, and profit depends on timing, risk management, and strategic decision-making rather than luck.

The game blends platformer movement, resource management, dynamic pricing, and real-time market events into a single cohesive experience that rewards economic thinking. It is short enough for a class period, deep enough for discussion, and engaging enough that students forget they are learning economics until the reflection starts.

Best used for middle school and early high school economics, civics, or social studies classes, this game is ideal for introducing macroeconomic cycles, reinforcing vocabulary, and sparking thoughtful conversations about how economic systems affect real people.

You will receive a game guide, teacher's guide, student worksheet, and direct link to the game for sharing with students. If you are a teacher and are worried about the game being blocked by your school's server, contact us; there are two easy ways to make the game available besides the direct link.
