Beluga Point south of Anchorage, Alaska, has always been a sacred place to me. Mom and I would always stop by here on our way back from our biennial Anchorage shopping trips to soak up the incredible scenery of Turnagain Arm and maybe spot a pod of beluga whales or catch the rolling boar tide if we were lucky. The inspiration for this photo was a photograph given to me by a dear friend who lives there. He took the photo when the sky looked particularly conflicted, with bright streaks of canary yellow piercing the dark gray clouds that were dominating the horizon. They say in Alaska, “If you want your favorite weather, just wait fifteen minutes.” I like to think I captured in a way the enchanting spontaneity of Alaska’s changeable moods. This painting has my homesickness soaked into its paper fibers. This 4x6-inch postcard-sized painting is just the thing for travelers, adventurers, and anyone who wants to refresh their space with a calming piece of Alaskan scenery.
